What is it?
Hyaluronic acid filler replaces volume that has been lost, or adds definition where the underlying structure is soft. It works immediately, and it holds water, so the area looks fuller and better lit rather than simply bigger.
We plan by where the light falls on your face, not only by where the hollow is. One cc placed well usually reads better than three placed evenly, and hyaluronic acid can be dissolved if you change your mind, which is a real comfort at a first appointment.

Good to know
Swelling for a few days is normal and small bruising is possible. Under eye work is the most technical area on the face, so we assess it carefully and sometimes recommend a different treatment instead.

HOW MUCH IS NEEDED
How much filler for each area.
The amount depends on the area and on your own goals. These are the usual ranges, not a quote. Your doctor confirms the amount after examining you.

The amount needed varies with individual anatomy and the result you want.
How long before results show?
Fillers give immediate results. You may have some swelling or bruising for the first few days, and the final result usually settles within seven to fourteen days.
How long do fillers last?
Longevity depends on the area, the product used and your own lifestyle. Generally results last anywhere from six to twelve months.

SAFETY AND SUITABILITY
What you should know before you decide.
This is general information, not advice for you personally. Your doctor will go through it at your consultation and will ask about your health and your medicines before anything is agreed.
What we use
Neuramis Black and Gold, Restylane, Restylane Kysse, Juvéderm Ultra Plus, ETPQ and Admedic. All are hyaluronic acid fillers, and all can be dissolved. We keep hyaluronidase on site.
What is normal afterwards
- Swelling, redness and tenderness for two to five days, most noticeably in the lips.
- Bruising, which can last a week and is easily covered.
- Small lumps or unevenness in the first days as the filler settles.
Less common risks
- Lumps or nodules that persist. These can usually be massaged or dissolved.
- Infection at the injection site.
- A cold sore flare if you are prone to them and we treat the lips.
- A bluish tint if filler sits too close to the surface, which is corrected by dissolving it.
- Filler entering a blood vessel. This is rare, it is the one serious risk, and it is why the signs below matter.
Tell us, or wait, if any of these apply
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- There is active acne, infection or inflamed skin where we would inject.
- You have had a reaction to hyaluronic acid or to lidocaine before.
- You have had dental work in the last two weeks, or are due some in the next two.
- You have an autoimmune or connective tissue condition, or take anticoagulants. Not an automatic no, but the doctor needs to know.
Before your appointment
- Tell us if you get cold sores. We may give you antiviral medicine before lip treatment.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours, and tell us about blood thinners, fish oil and vitamin E.
- Do not book within two weeks of a vaccination or dental work.
- Come without make up on the area if you can.
Afterwards
- Do not massage the area unless your doctor has shown you how.
- Avoid sauna, steam, hot yoga and strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
- Sleep on your back the first night after facial filler.
- No dental treatment for two weeks.
- Swelling peaks around day two. Wait two weeks before judging the shape.
Call us straight away if
- Pain that is severe or getting worse rather than settling. Filler should ache, not hurt badly.
- Skin that turns white, blotchy, dusky or grey near the treated area.
- Any change in your vision. Go to hospital immediately.
- Fever, spreading redness or pus.
- These are the signs of filler in a blood vessel. Call us the same hour, not the next day. We can dissolve it, and speed matters.
