What is it?
Mesofat is a series of small injections into a fat pad, using a solution that breaks down the fat cells in that spot. The body then clears them over the following weeks. It works on one defined area at a time, such as under the chin, the outer thigh or the lower abdomen.
It is a contouring treatment, not a weight loss treatment. It suits a pocket of fat that has not moved with diet or training, on someone whose weight is already stable. If your goal is to lose weight overall, we will say so and talk about what would actually help instead.

Good to know
Expect real swelling for several days, and expect a course rather than one visit. Most areas need two to four sessions spaced a few weeks apart, and your doctor will tell you which after examining the area.

What we use

What is normal afterwards
- Marked swelling for three to seven days. This is the expected reaction, not a complication, and it is larger than most people anticipate.
- Tenderness, warmth and a firm feeling in the area for one to two weeks.
- Bruising, sometimes considerable.
- Itching or a burning feeling during and shortly after the injections.
- Numbness or hard lumps under the skin that soften over several weeks.
Less common risks
- Unevenness or a dip in the contour if fat is reduced unequally. This is why we treat conservatively and space the sessions.
- Lumps that stay firm for longer than a few weeks.
- Infection or an abscess at an injection point.
- Skin darkening over the treated area, more likely on deeper skin tones.
- Nerve irritation causing temporary numbness or, under the chin, a temporary change in the smile.
Tell us, or wait, if any of these apply
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have liver or kidney disease.
- You have a bleeding disorder or take anticoagulants.
- You have an active infection, inflamed skin or an open wound in the area.
- You have diabetes that is not well controlled, or any condition that slows healing.
- You are seeking weight loss rather than contouring of one area. This treatment will not do that, and we would rather say so before you pay.
Before your appointment
- Tell us about blood thinners, aspirin, fish oil and vitamin E, and about any liver or kidney condition.
- Eat beforehand and drink water.
- Do not book within a week of an event, a holiday or a photograph. The swelling is genuinely visible.
- Wear loose clothing over the area you are treating.
Afterwards
- Expect the swelling to peak on day two or three. That is normal.
- Use a cold compress on the first day if it helps, then leave the area alone.
- Drink plenty of water and keep moving. Gentle walking helps the body clear it.
- No sauna, steam, hot baths or heavy exercise for 48 hours.
- Massage only if your doctor tells you to, and exactly as shown.
- Judge the area at six to eight weeks after your final session, not before.
Call us straight away if
- Swelling that is still increasing after day three, or that becomes hot and red.
- Fever, or pus from an injection point.
- Severe pain rather than tenderness.
- Skin that turns white, dusky or breaks down.
- Numbness or a change in your smile that is not improving after a few weeks.
